CURRENT CHALLENGES FACING INSURANCE REGULATION
On July 5-8 of 2011, the Chilean Superintendence of
Securities and Insurance and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners
(NAIC) hosted the seminar on “Current Challenges Facing Insurance
Regulation”. This seminar addressed key issues for insurance regulation
and supervision such as: NAIC’s general overview, overview of
the US solvency system, financial accreditation, different approaches
on risk based supervision, reinsurance, financial reporting and data
collection, group supervision and macro prudential supervision, among
others. The activities included speakers from the NAIC, an organization
with great expertise in the issues that were addressed, and one of the
most experienced regarding risk based supervision for insurers.
The event also had guest speakers from the Chilean Superintendence of
Securities and Insurance, and from the Chilean Insurers Association

"7TH MEETING ON CASE STUDIES REGARDING SURVEILLANCE AND OVERSIGHT OF MARKETS AND ENTITIES"
On May 16-20 of 2011, the Chilean Superintendence of Securities and Insurance (SVS), the Instituto Iberoamericano de Mercado de Valores of Spain (IIMV) and the Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF) hosted the “7th Meeting on Case Studies Regarding Surveillance and Oversight of Markets and Entities”. The purpose of this seminar was to analyze through discussion panels and practical cases issues such as enforcement procedures regarding market abuse and financial fraud, sanctions, and cooperation among regulators in cross-border investigations with an emphasis on variable rent markets. The event was aimed for participation from senior officials and technical experts from regulatory entities and securities regulators from across Latin America that were associated to the IIMV, and whose duties were related to the surveillance and oversight of financial markets and entities.
